Translation Express Translation Prices for Translation
We had to ask ourselves a question: “What phrase best describes what we’re offering?” We settled on “language services”. After all, that is what we do. But we hadn’t heard the term used before. Maybe no one provides these services, we thought - maybe there’s no need for them.
The truth, of course, is that the concept is far from original. Translators, copy-writers, copy-editors, style-editors and proofreaders are all providers of “language services”. They all are, or should be, people who know what language is, what it means, and how it works. The lack of a unifying term illustrates what is wrong with the market in language services today: it is fragmented.
This fragmentation of language services into discrete functions weakens accountability and reduces language production to a series of automated, technical tasks. This often makes the “end product” less expressive and idiomatic than it should be. It is often completely sterile.
A holistic approach is needed. It is true that the process of translation, for instance, should be broken down into separate stages, involving experts in both the source and the target languages. But the process should be one of ongoing collaboration until the job is done (see the Semos Process ).
Semos is here to deliver integrated language services of an exceptionally high standard. We know that the buck stops with us; we would never return to the client anything that we felt could be improved upon.
Semos aims to establish itself as the pre-eminent provider of language services in the European Union. This is quite a vision. But we really believe in what we’re doing.
